Overview

CLAT is a national-level entrance exam conducted for admission to undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) law programs offered by 24 National Law Universities (NLUs) in India. It is also accepted by many private and self-financed law colleges across the country.

Eligibility

For UG Program (LLB):

  • Passed 10+2 or equivalent with minimum 45% marks (40% for SC/ST)

  • No upper age limit

  • Candidates appearing in 10+2 can also apply

For PG Program (LLM):

  • LL.B. or equivalent degree with minimum 50% marks (45% for SC/ST)

  • Final year candidates are eligible

Exam Pattern

  • Total questions: 120

  • Question type: Comprehension-based MCQs

  • Subjects: English, Current Affairs, Legal Reasoning, Logical Reasoning, Quantitative Techniques

  • Duration: 2 hours

  • Negative marking: Yes (-0.25)

  2. Current Affairs & GK: National and international events, legal news

  3. Legal Reasoning: Principles of law, legal facts, and reasoning

  4. Logical Reasoning: Arguments, critical reasoning, patterns

  5. Quantitative Techniques: Basic mathematics up to 10th level
